I received a free copy of this book via The Niche Reader, and found it quite interesting historically, but I wasn’t able to empathise with the fictional characters. The writer has spent a lot of time making it as clear and accurate as he can, and shoud be pleased with it, however I felt it read more like a documentary or a history lesson than a family saga, and I did not fully engage with it. That is not to say it is not a very good book, just not quite what I expected.
